PBO works by blocking production of cytochrome P450, the enzyme within insects that breaks down and reduces the efficacy of the active ingredients in insecticides. By blocking the action of this enzyme, piperonyl butoxide improves the effectiveness of the insecticide, providing quick knockdown and kill, while allowing lower use rates.
